Outreach

Trinity Church parishioners pledge to take our faith beyond the “Red Doors” to make a Christian Impact on the world in which we live.

Trinity’s Outreach efforts range from quiet personal ministries to full parish involvement activities. Outreach goals are to be good stewards of Trinity’s money and resources, locally, regionally through the Diocese and globally. Outreach involves not only the giving of money to various agencies, but also the giving of time, talent and care.

Locally, Trinity parishioners have a long tradition of supporting area agencies and projects:

The Men’s Group and ECW also support outreach by sponsoring events and dinners to raise money for both local and diocesan projects. Parishioners are invited to participate in the Kroger Fundraising Project. This helps to provide funds for various church projects by providing Kroger shopping cards that result in a percentage of reloads coming to the church. Trinity parishioners provide meals on a monthly basis for volunteers at the local HOPE Clinic, a free medical clinic for the needy in the community with chronic and ongoing medical conditions. Trinity also provides offices and meeting space to the local chapter of NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Trinity is one of several parishes that participate in the Diocesan Reading Camp program. A satellite reading day camp is offered to local elementary students for one week each summer and provides opportunities for community excursions to local farms, swimming pools, museums as well as small group reading instruction. To learn more about Reading Camp, please visit wwww.readingcamprocks.org. See below for a report on this year's Reading Camp.

Our newest outreach program is the Centre Student Outreach Program, which is designed for Trintiy parishioners to dontate their time and efforts to help Centre College students prepare for finals. In addition to opening our doors so that students have a quiet place to study, parishioners also offer refreshments and snacks to students. See the report below.

In addition to church sponsored outreach, parishioners are active in individual ministries and volunteer and sit on the boards of various local agencies and foundations such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way , Heritage Hospice, Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.

An Update on Cardinal Meadows

In 1978, a group of parishioners from Trinity Danville and St. Phillip's in Harrodsburg formed the Trinity-St. Phillip's Foundation. The Foundation's original dream was to provide housing for the elderly and many of the apartments are leased to senior citizens of the community. This Foundation, which includes all members of both churches, purchased land on US 127 in Harrodsburg and, through a Farm Home Administration (now Rural Development) loan, established low-income housing. There are now 32 single units and four two bedroom units located across from Kroger in Harrodsburg.

Since its beginnings, the Foundation's board included three members of Trinity Church. When the board met in July, it was quickly discerned that Buddy Edwards was the only current board member from Trinity (the Rectors of both churches serve as ex-officio). Buddy has agreed to stay on one more year, Leigh Jefferson agreed to serve a one year term, and Jared Meaux agreed to serve a three year term. At the Annual Meeting of 2012, we will elect two members of Trinity Church to serve on the Cardinal Meadows board and, from this meeting forward, all members will be elected at the Annual Meeting.

The Foundation is in good shape and the residents of Cardinal Meadows are happy. The facilities and the foundation well and effectively by Wildwood. The board spends its time and energy looking towards the future and discerning how to best maintain the buildings for the future.

On December 7th, we will have our annual Holiday party. Each resident will receive a small gift basket and enjoy an evening dinner. The Board will be present to serve food and eat with the residents. This is just one symbol of the fine work of both St. Phillip's and Trinity Church in our communities.

If you're interested in learning more about Cardinal Meadows or serving on the board in the future, please contact The Reverend Amy Dafler Meaux.
