Music at Trinity

Music has long been a core value of Trinity Church. This legacy is due to the excellent leadership of past organists and directors of music and because the congregation consistently demonstrates a desire for fine music.
Choir
The Trinity Choir supports congregational singing and provides special music for parish worship. Their dedication to presenting music of quality enriches our liturgy. Directed by Maria LeRose, the choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Eucharist during the academic year and at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Eucharist during the summer months. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. during the academic year. New members are always welcome. Parishioners who play musical instruments are invited to share their talents by playing at various services throughout the year.

Harpsichord
Trinity is very fortunate to have harpsichord builder John V. Thompson as a parishioner. The harpsichord he built is located on the main floor of the nave and is used for the Advent Festival of Lessons and Music, Choral Evensong, the Christmas Day Eucharist, and for selected service music throughout the church year.
The German style harpsichord was built after an instrument by Christian Vater of Hanover dated 1738. It has been "improved" to 56 keys, a moveable keyboard that transposes up or down one half step to baroque, classical or modern pitch. The strings are all brass with one keyboard and two 8-foot registers which can be played together or separately. It is available for rental and has been used by chamber orchestras at Berea College, Asbury University and Centre College.
Organ
A 4-rank Moller “Artiste” pipe organ is located in the choir loft in the back of the nave. The original organ was presented to the parish in 1867. The current organ was installed almost 100 years later, just before Easter 1966.
